The movie "Independence Day" may have been fiction -- but Joan Lunden reveals what really would happen in case of nuclear attack on the United States. She gained unprecedented access to the nation's "War Rooms," hidden deep in the bowels of the Pentagon. Viewers will see exactly what the National Military Command Center looks like and go on board the "flying White House," the plane the President would use in the event of a national emergency. The airborne command center is a military version of a 747. It houses the most sophisticated communications systems ever made, and can fly for up to 72 hours before refueling in midair. Joan also attends private briefings and interviews Secretary of Defense William Perry and Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, General John Shalikashvili. The segment begins with a dramatic opening with Joan aboard an Army Black Hawk helicopter flying in restricted airspace above the Pentagon.
