The crisp air, the changing foliage, the approach of the holiday season — before you can blink, the fall season will be here. What items can you use to decorate your home that will get you in the mood for the coziest season of the year?

Pumpkins

Fresh pumpkins make an attractive décor item for your porch or in your kitchen, but if you would rather not have to remember to remove them before they start to go bad, why not buy some pumpkin-like décor? Vine pumpkins are sophisticated, and you can buy a few for your home's entryway. There are tons of other pumpkin décor options online that you can explore. Choose ones that fit your personality and your home.

Pumpkin décor is fantastic because it stays relevant throughout the fall all the way to Thanksgiving and beyond.

Candles

Fall-themed candles have a dual purpose; they not only look good, but they also smell good. Scents like pumpkin spice, fresh apple, , and chai are all warm and comforting. To give your candles even greater impact, shop around for some chic candle holders. Dark metal candle stands are great for autumn.

If you have young children around your house and don't want to light the candles, just take the lids off them. You'll still get some of the scent, and you won't have to worry about burning wick.

Leaves

Nothing says fall like shifting foliage. You can create your own leaf art by pressing leaves that you find outside your home. If that isn't something that appeals to you, you may be able to find low-cost pressed leaf art at a local garage sale or secondhand store. This is a great family activity that can result in adorable decorations for your home.

There are other ways to use leaves as well. Buy some faux decorative leaves and create a display around your other fall décor, such as your pumpkins or candles. Wrap a string of leaves around a banister, or lay them on top of the mantle in your living room. Leaves are a versatile décor item, and the possibilities for using them are virtually endless.

Area Rug

A new area rug that features warm colors and a fall pattern can be the ideal way to get you and your house into the mood for fall. Put your other area rug in storage until the weather starts to warm up again. However, if you don't want to go through the hassle of switching out a large area rug, you can buy a smaller fall-themed rug for your house's entryway. It's a great way to let your guests know that you're ready for fall!

Baskets

Baskets remind many people of a fall harvest . Find an attractive dark basket for your kitchen counter to place your apples and other fall produce into. Alternatively, outfit a basket with some leaves, pine cones, cinnamon sticks, and other decorative items and find an attractive place to set it.

Why shouldn't your home's décor change to adapt to the shifting seasons? Decorating for fall is fun, and it will get you in the right mood for the beautiful colors, delicious foods, and overall coziness that come with the season.
