Tis the Season...to Visit Senior Living Communities
The holidays are upon us and family is arriving from near and far. During your holiday stay be observant as to how your loved ones are living. If you find that you or your loved ones are becoming incapable of living alone and you are thinking about a senior community, check out this advice from my friends at A Place For Mom:
Visiting a senior community can be intimidating, but during the holidays communities are embellished with lights and decorations that create a warm and comforting atmosphere. The holidays brings joy to residence as they decorate Christmas Trees and have the smell of pine needles lingering though the air.
Each year the holiday season brings family together from all over the world. Most families travel back home to their roots to visit their loved ones, parents or grandparents. Having your family around for an extended period is a great time to take a trip to a senior center. Having the whole family together will allow each member to assess the compatibility of the community rather than just one family member.
Communities like to keep their residence active, especially during the holidays. Residence will have many activities to choose from, such as visiting performers, holiday socials and holiday themed crafting classes. For example, Springwell Senior Living in Baltimore, MD has holiday events that include a recital of the Nutcracker, a Christmas lights tour and a candlelight service..etc.
Taking your loved one to visit a senior center during the holidays can act as a good introduction, especially for ones that might be having second thoughts about leaving their homes. The holidays are about children, family and spreading holiday cheer so our loved ones are less likely to feel pressured or singled out during this time.
If most of your research is done and you have chosen the right home for your loved one, most communities offer discounts or special offers for seniors moving in during the month of December.
The holiday season is about giving and spending time with family, everyone wants their loved ones to feel happy and safe. So this holiday season ask your loved ones where they see themselves living in the future. Take them to visit a couple homes and see which ones make the cut. The more love and support your loved ones receive the easier this processes will be for everyone.
