One of the great things about the holiday season is all of the potential opportunities to express your creativity. From decorating your house with Christmas lights or stringing popcorn and cranberries for decoration, there are a lot of chances to flex your crafting muscles. But if you’re looking for a safe and fun craft idea that you can do with your kids, you might want to consider making snow globes. They are fairly simple to make, you kids will have a blast making them, and they will last for years to come as a memory of the time you spent together as a family.

And your kids are going to love how creative they can be with their snow globes. You don’t have to conform to the typical snow globe with a cottage or a snowman in a typical setting. They can use an old toys or a favorite character to make something truly unique! And the best part is that they are extremely inexpensive to make. All you are going to need is a glass jar with a lid (think olives, pickles, spaghetti sauce, etc.), a figurine or toy, glitter, water, and an adhesive such as glue or hot glue.

Step 1: Choose Your Figure

The first thing you need to do is choose what figure your children want to put in their snow globe. It can be a Santa, a holiday figure, or just about anything they want. If your kids have a favorite superhero or favorite character from TV, all the better. You don’t have to make a typical boring snow globe!

Step 2: Glue Your Figure

The second thing you are going to need to do is secure your figure to the inside surface of a lid from your jar. When the snow globe is finished, the Mason jar will be upside down. Start by building the scene that your figure will stand on. If you want to keep things simple, all you need to do is glue a figure to the lid. Just remember that you need to give the glue adequate time to dry before submerging it in water. If you are using hot glue, the process goes much faster.

Step 3: Fill the Jar

The third thing you need to do is fill the jar with water. You will also want to add glitter or another craft material for the “snow,” and only one to two teaspoons will suffice. Just make sure that your “snow” material is heavier than water so it will fall appropriately after you turn the snow globe upside down.

Step 4: Fasten the Lid

The last thing you need to do is to secure the lid—with everything on it—on the jar. However, it is advisable that you use an adhesive to seal the lid on. Little ones are curious by nature, and you don’t want to give them the opportunity to unscrew the lid and make a huge mess!

And that’s all there is to it! Once the glue has dried, simply flip your snow globe and let it snow!
