Tanya Steen

I discovered a lump June 23rd, 2014 and it has been a whirlwind since then. I had a mammogram and ultrasound within a week and with one look at the radiologists face when she said I had 3 areas of concern and one was in my lymph node. I immediately met with my PCP to see the results and as I was scheduled for a biopsy. I knew what I had and I prepared myself as much as I could for the news. But I would not use the C word until it was confirmed. I handled everything well except when they ask if you are doing ok then the tears came but immediately stopped them. I was going to fight now matter what, I was fighting for more time with my 3 children and my husband. I am 46 years old and was in the best shape of my life, it shocked me how this does not discriminate. I have aggressive growing stage 3 and am on TAC for my chemo. My first chemo was within a week from diagnosis. My doctor gave me every test to make sure it hadn't spread and we were targeting what we needed to target. I am currently half-way done with chemo. I am a teacher and working full time, but have realized I need to listen to my body and take time off when needed. I wear my wig to work that is made out of my own hair. Not many know I am bald, LOL most of my students don't know. I have tried to keep life going like normal, even tho it is not form me. I am a strong independent woman that has needed to ask for help, and the support and love I receive is amazing. I am stubborn and I am a fighter, cancer has nothing on me. I will do everything I can to help fund research and share my story with others, we need a cure I have an 11 year old daughter that I do not want to go through this. I have my 4th chemo in a week, after my six rounds I will be having surgery and radiation. Never stop fighting!!!!
